Description:

The Senior Support Group is a gathering for residents aged 55 and above to come together, chat, and receive support on various issues that concern them. As a facilitator, you will lead discussions while maintaining the privacy and dignity of the participants.


Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and facilitate engaging and informative discussions during Senior Support Group meetings.
  • Create educational materials or presentations on topics relevant to seniors' well-being and concerns.
  • Foster a supportive and respectful environment where participants feel comfortable sharing and seeking support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and privacy regarding participants' personal information and discussions.
  • Collaborate with fellow volunteers and/or staff to ensure the smooth running of the support group sessions.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the social work sector, healthcare sector, or related fields is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for leading group discussions and providing support.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to listen actively and non-judgmentally to participants' concerns.
  • Respect for diversity and inclusivity, ensuring all participants feel valued and respected.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding the dignity of the participants.

Requirements:


  • Minimum 18 years of age. 
  • Must commit to volunteering weekly for a minimum of 4 months or 16 shifts.
  • Must complete the on-line orientation.
  • Must complete a volunteer agreement form. 
  • Must complete a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector search.
  • Must be approved by Mustard Seed staff.
